The respective ages of majority for men (CIS gender obviously) and women (CIS again) under Indian law are twenty-one and eighteen (although some inconsistencies exist regarding women's age of consent). Since the lesbian woman has no legal existence, no age of majority is assigned to her. What could possibly be the use of specifying the age of voting, marriage or consent of a person who is not even acknowledged as a citizen of the state? In this context, this collection of oral testimonies of twenty-two lesbian women from Bangladesh and West Bengal represents an important milestone.
